The IMAG History & Science Center, a FutureMakers Coalition partner, received a generous grant from Lee County Industrial Development Authority (IDA) to launch an innovative after-school program.
Collaboratory provides backbone support for FutureMakers Coalition and has partnered with IMAG to evaluate the program’s impact and outcomes.
The grant provides the opportunity for Lee County elementary students to attend a STEM program (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) designed to introduce them to essential 21st-century skills that will prepare them for the workforce. The program provides training in robotics, coding, technology, and engineering at IMAG’s Fort Myers location and the STEMLab in Estero.
FutureMakers Coalition will support data tracking, workforce alignment, and program evaluation. Families registering for the program will participate in a career-focused intake process through FutureMakers, which helps connect parents with reskilling and job training opportunities.
“This is a great example of how collaboration can help us achieve FutureMakers goal of transforming the workforce using a multi-generational approach to education and workforce development,” said Tessa LeSage, Collaboratory Chief Impact Officer. “The learnings from this effort will help us understand how we can expand academic enrichment while ensuring parents have the childcare needed to work so our economy can thrive.”
Additionally, IMAG is working with the School District of Lee County to collect data on student progress, attendance, and behavior outcomes.
The after-school program, which runs from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., serves K-5 students throughout Lee County. Transportation will be provided to help reach students from underserved communities and support working parents. Students will also have access to scholarships and flexible enrollment options.
The STEM After-School Program will serve as a model for other cultural institutions in the region.
