That Was Me

I don’t have a picture of me now, but that was me just about 10 years ago. My name is Joel Jones, I’m 16 years old, and I’m a junior at Lorenzo Walker Technical High School. At the time that photo was taken, if you had asked me what I wanted to do with my life, I would have told you I wanted to be a veterinarian, a cowboy, a construction worker, and a firefighter. Maybe even a Power Ranger. 10 years later, you ask me that same question, and I would tell you I want to be a difference maker. I want to be at the spearhead of changes in our community to foster proper citizenship, and attending to one’s civic duties. I’m going to enlist in the Marines at 17, graduate from high school, serve my time — however much is tentative, and become a pastor once I get out. I’m hell-bent — or perhaps heaven-bent — on being the reason for changing at least one person’s life, and all the better if I end up changing a whole community.
